Hydrogeology of southeast Sunshine Valley, New Mexico

Abstract:

 In order to demonstrate water availability for subdivision approval, a site specific study was conducted for a location in the southeast Sunshine Valley. An exploratory well proved the existence of an exceptionally coarse-grained clastic aquifer, with tested hydraulic conductivity values of 70 to 83 feet per day. The results are compared with hydrologic studies in basin margin settings of Taos Valley, and provide regional and site specific data on the hydrogeology of the southern San Luis Valley. Analogous hydrogeologic characteristics may be found in alluvial fan deposits of streams debouching along the Sangre de Cristo mountain front.
