Pre-conference field trip three: Carlsbad Cavern from Washington Ranch to Whites City, Walnut Canyon, scenic view of Delaware Basin, and Carlsbad Caverns
— Issam Bou Jaode

Summary:

Permian geology from Capitan Reef to the back-reef sediments of the Tansill and Yates formations: The day is split into two sessions, morning and afternoon. The morning session examines the surface Permian geology from the mouth of Walnut Canyon to the parking lot of Carlsbad Caverns National Park Visitor Center. That portion will cover the transition from the main Capitan Reef to the back-reef sediments of the Tansill and Yates formations.

The afternoon session is the subsurface Permian geology and more recent cave development inside Carlsbad Cavern.
