January 1, 2022
The New Mexico Geological Society (NMGS) is proud to announce that the scholarship applications for 2022 Grants-in-Aid, Research Awards, and Graduate Mentorship are now open. Research proposals and requests are being accepted from Saturdau, January 1, 2022, through Friday, February 18, 2022, via the on-line NMGS scholarship application portal.
A new competitive grant was established in 2020 — the Cearley Geochronology Award. Students can apply for this award using the Grants-In-Aid/Research Award application. A total of $5,000 is available for 2022 student projects, with a maximum award of $2,000 per graduate or undergraduate student. This competitive grant will be awarded to exceptional student(s) doing high-quality, field-orientated research at a New Mexico institution. The award money can be used to fund the preparation, analysis, and evaluation of geologic field samples that will be submitted for geochronology analysis. The award can be stand-alone, or be given in addition to other NMGS awards.
NMGS grants and research awards are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in New Mexico institutions and whose proposed projects are located in New Mexico (or the surrounding region for the Cearley Geochronology Award). Project areas and students enrolled in colleges outside of New Mexico are not eligible for funding.
If students or their advisors have questions concerning the Grant-In-Aid and Research Award application process, please do not hesitate to contact the NMGS Scholarship Chair.
