Dear New Mexico Geological Society, 09/10/2024

The 2024 NMGS Fall Field Conference REGISTRATION OPENS TODAY (9/10/2024)

ACTION ITEM- register NOW for one of the only 95 spots.

Registration includes the NMGS 2024 guidebook; we are only printing guidebooks for conference attendees this year and we are making the entire guidebook and roadlogs available on the NMGS website as free PDFs.

This year’s Annual Fall Field Conference is the 74th annual NMGS Fall Field conference! We will visit the Nacimiento Mountains and Río Puerco Valley on October 23-26, 2024. The geologic theme is the Nacimiento nexus. A nexus is a connection or central link in a system; for example, you are at a nexus when you find yourself in the middle of an intersection. The Nacimiento nexus is where three major physiographic provinces meet: the Colorado Plateau, the Rocky Mountains, and the Rio Grande rift. Also converging at this crossroads are the northeast-trending Jemez lineament and the Jemez Mountains containing the Valles Caldera supervolcano.

The venue will be in Bernalillo, New Mexico, and the meeting hotel will be Santa Ana Star Hotel.

  • Wednesday Oct. 23: Meet and greet at Bosque Brewery in Bernalillo
  • Thursday Oct. 24: San Ysidro area and Tierra Amarilla anticline, Banquet at Santa Ana Star Casino.
  • Friday Oct. 25: Río Puerco Valley and Puerco Necks, Barbeque at Coronado Historic Center
  • Saturday Oct. 26 (half day)- Gillman Tunnels and Soda Dam, end ~ noon.

Please join us. We look forward to great geology, great discussions, and great camaraderie (as usual).

Sincerely Yours,

Karl Karlstrom,
